The NFL franchise released a comment Wednesday night stating they have knowledge of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice and had been in communication with the league office.
The team omitted the name of the player specifically in their statement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Social Media
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention Rice by name, posted a series of photos on Instagram that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. She did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the team selected in the second round.
No police reports were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
The receiver missed the initial part of this NFL campaign due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that left several individuals hurt. He was given a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
On the field, Rice finished the year with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
