Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Support Following PSV Humiliation

The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was expected for questions to be asked about his position following another heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds suffered their 9th defeat in twelve matches, marking the team's poorest streak after being relegated in 1953-54.

They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough night at their home ground.

“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I've received plenty of support from management,” the coach remarked.

“It's important to turn it around and earn three points of course but when you're working as a coach and struggling then it is normal that questions are asked.”

He noted, “I am OK with my position. It is not the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we turned it around.”

Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy

When asked to expand on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:

“We talk a lot. They are helpful for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me all the time each day to say they back me.”

He further stated, “During our regular discussions I perceive the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them after this game yet so it remains to be seen.”

Familiar Failings and Squad Response

The manager expressed regret over recurring failings from his squad in their Champions League loss, specifically wasted chances and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his view of the club’s predicament.

“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder stated.

“It's simply not good enough. I don't need to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”

He went on, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”

“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a spell like this with outcomes this poor.”

Jones concluded, “But we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And as long as it is removed, we will always compete.”

“We’re going to try to bring this squad return to its rightful place, show everyone once more the values of this club and why people call it the best team in the planet.”

“At this moment, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
