The Former President's Policies Pose a Risk to Our Social Fabric.

The internal and external strategies – ranging from the effort to overturn the election previously to recent moves and statements – undermine both national and global jurisprudence. However, the issue goes deeper.

They jeopardize the fundamental meaning of civilization itself.

The moral purpose of any advanced culture is to prevent the stronger from attacking and exploiting the less powerful. Otherwise, we could find ourselves trapped in a state of nature where only the fittest prevails.

This principle lies at the center of America’s founding documents. It’s also the heart of the postwar international order supported by the US, which stresses international cooperation, democratic governance, fundamental freedoms, and the legal authority.

But, it is a vulnerable construct, easily violated by those who seek to abuse their influence. Upholding it necessitates that the influential have a sense of duty to refrain from seeking immediate gains, and that society hold them accountable if they don't.

Unfettered might does not make right. It leads to instability, chaos, and war.

Every time people or corporations or countries that are richer and more powerful target and use those that are weaker, the framework of our shared norms unravels. Should such behavior are allowed to continue, the structure collapses. If not stopped, the world can fall into instability and violence. It has happened before.

Today, we live in a international landscape grown vastly more unequal. Political and economic power are increasingly centralized than ever before. This invites the privileged to exploit the less fortunate because they perceive themselves as omnipotent.

The resources of a handful of tycoons is staggering. The reach of big tech, big oil, and large defense contractors extends over much of the globe. AI is could further concentrate economic and political clout even more. The offensive capability of the leading countries is without parallel in the annals of time.

Empowered by a compliant faction and a pliant high court, the executive office has been transformed into the supreme and answerable-to-none entity of government in recent memory.

Put it all together and you perceive the danger.

A clear connection connects previous lawless actions to present-day provocations. Each were founded upon the overconfidence of omnipotence.

One observes a similar pattern in the actions of other powers: in military conflicts, in expansive ambitions, and in the worldwide exploitation by powerful corporate entities.

But, raw power does not create right. It produces uncertainty, revolution, and war.

The lessons of the past reveal that laws and norms to check the influential also safeguard them. If these guardrails are removed, their relentless pursuit for more power and wealth in time lead to their downfall – and with them their enterprises, countries, or domains. And risk world war.

Such lawlessness will haunt international stability – and indeed a rules-based order – for a long time.
