Donald Trump’s family business accelerated its hiring of foreign workers on temporary visas this period, even as his administration was creating barriers for other businesses attempting to do the identical, a report published recently stated.
According to data from the federal labor department, the business aimed to hire at least 184 overseas employees in 2025 for short-term roles at the US president’s Florida property, two golf clubs and his winery in Virginia.
The quantity of applications for temporary work visas for workers including waitstaff, clerks, housekeepers, culinary employees and agricultural laborers was the record filed by the organization, and up from 121 in 2021, when his presidency concluded.
It was also the fifth time in a decade that Trump had sought to bring in more than 100 foreign employees for temporary positions at Mar-a-Lago, based on labor statistics.
The disclosure comes amid a tightening on legal immigration by his government that has included the introduction of a substantial charge on skilled worker visas; increased review of the activities of the millions of people who already hold US visas; and restrictive new rules for foreign students and journalists.
In total, the business sought to employ 566 overseas workers over the five years the former president has been in the White House, from his first term and during 2025.
Notably, the former president was criticized by certain in the GOP this week for comments justifying the necessity for overseas employees when a company was unable to find people with “particular skills” to occupy certain positions.
“You can’t just say a country is coming in, going to invest billions to build a facility, and going to recruit individuals off an unemployment line who have been unemployed in five years, and they’re going to start making their missiles. It doesn’t work that well,” he stated to a host after she suggested that overseas employees undercut the pay of American employees.
The administration refused a request for response, and the business did not provide an answer to an inquiry.
